Larry Morgan, Sr. founded Morgan Contracting, Inc. with his two sons, Larry Morgan, Jr. and Bryan Morgan in 1989 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Soon thereafter, they established the company headquarters in Baker, Florida.
They first focused on tunnels, bores, and pipelines, including small to large diameter hand mine and TBM tunnels, and small to large diameter pipelines and pump stations. The company grew into building larger pump stations and treatment plants, marine work, and pipe rehabilitation in the late 1990s.
Larry Morgan, Sr. passed away in 1999. Although it was a very trying time, Larry Morgan, Jr. and Bryan Morgan continued to press forward with building up the company.
In 2010, at their peak of approximately 250 full-time employees, almost $100MM a year in gross revenue, and at peak profitability, Larry and Bryan sold 75% of the company to a tri-venture of Private Equity Groups. A few years later, Bryan decided to exit the business to focus on other interests, namely training military Special Forces teams in long-range shooting at his shooting facilities.
The economic crisis of 2008 began to affect the company in 2011 after the economic stimulus was exhausted, upon which, the company downsized operations for a few years. In 2017, Larry Morgan, Jr. bought the remaining Private Equity ownership back, at the maturity of the equity group’s investment, and relocated the headquarters back to Knoxville, Tennessee.
Morgan Contracting, Inc. is continuing to grow and further expand its territory and scope throughout the eastern United States. The company is licensed and/or qualified to work in all of the Southeast United States and some of the western states, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Utah, and Arizona.
